In this special episode of Mi365 Podcasts, we are joined by our Member of the Month for March 2019 – the fabulous Elaine Dews!

Elaine shares with us her story of growing up in post-war Britain and her varied career - from working in the Bank of England, to training as a PE teacher and then to working with children with special needs. Now retired, Elaine explains how she finds her purpose every day and uses a series of morning rituals to get into the right headspace.

Elaine and Pete discuss the importance of personal development, with Elaine describing her relationship with both her duck and genie and how understanding these key forces has helped to establish a stronger mind-body-spirit connection. The pair talk about how to find happiness and the psychology behind life satisfaction, with Elaine sharing some wonderful advice to younger listeners.

In this episode, you will learn:
1. Why gratitude is essential for happiness;
2. Why we can always look forward to the future;
3. How to install a work ethic that allows you to outcompete yourself.

Have you been inspired by Elaines’s story? What rituals are important to keep you on track? Share with us what you’ve learnt from this episode in the comments below!

How we live our lives is governed by our emotions. We often consider our emotions to be spontaneous and outside of our control yet in reality, this is very far from the truth. Many people live lives full of chronic stress and negative attitudes and the impact of this is clear to see - physical sickness, depression, anxiety and loneliness.

In order to live life at the fullest, we must learn to take control of our emotions. We can choose what feeling we want to experience - yet this ability is hidden through lack of conscious effort. Society causes us to foster emotions of being 'not quite good enough' and once coupled with our biological predisposition for feeling fear, it can become difficult to switch back to a positive mindset.

How can you regain the ability to maintain a positive mental attitude? In this episode, you will learn the importance of meditation in combatting stress and how we should treat our thoughts (like we treat our nutrition!)

Can you control your emotions? How do you cope with stress? Share with us what you’ve learnt from this episode in the comments below!

Technology is everywhere. From our phones, to cars, workplaces and homes, artificial intelligence (AI) exists and shapes our lives. Is this a good thing? Or does this affect the human condition? In this episode, we will debate the role of AI versus ‘ancient intelligence’ – guidance and ‘tools’ from human sources.

Humans have always looked to improve the quality of their lives, even back in ancient times. Ancient philosophers were aware that in order to become the best version of yourself, you need to live with virtues (Aristotle) and this is still highly relevant today. However, unlike ancient people, modern humans have new tools in the form of technology and AI which are also trying to capture our attention.

From machines playing board games in 1950s, society is expected to move to an AI driven world of convenience. But what impact will this have on us? Will this be different for millennials versus baby boomers? And does our dependence on technology potentially explain differences between groups?

Pete explores the link between technology usage and happiness and explains why happiness has plateaued since 1950s, despite more disposable cash and choices. Since the advent of AI, our decision making abilities have been reduced and increased multitasking and Pete describes why we need to take bold action if we are to regain our ability to live life to the fullest.

In this episode, you will learn:

1.    Why taking a three month holiday might not be as great as it first seems;
2.    Why the idea of a work-life balance is a myth;
3.    How to put down the smartphone and look up by following PERMA.

What ancient wisdom do you follow? Is your relationship with technology different to your parents or children? Share with us what you’ve learnt from this episode in the comments below!

“Stop! Imposter!”

Do you deceive, cheat or swindle? What about cheating yourself?

Imposter Syndrome is everywhere. But what exactly is it? Where did it come from and why does it pose such a serious problem to us all?

Imposter Syndrome is something we should all be talking about. In this episode, Pete starts a debate about this topical issue and describes what it is, the effects it can have and how you can overcome it.

If you’ve ever doubted yourself or felt fear of being exposed/found out then it’s likely that you’ve experienced Imposter Syndrome. It is commonly associated with high achievers, but especially common in women but in reality, it is likely that we all have it to some degree. Imposter Syndrome can have massive effects too – by limiting our feelings of inspiration, we can often delay or stop trying to achieve more, causing us to stagnate and feel like a failure.

Pete shares with us his own candid experiences of Imposter Syndrome, as well as how he managed to overcome these feelings through analysing his feelings and reconditioning his response. He explains that we are forced to grow up and fit into society in order to become socially accepted and that conformity can be the trigger to start Imposter Syndrome.

In this episode, you will learn:

1.    Why honesty is the best policy
2.    Why rejection hurts and its links to prehistoric man
3.    How the Law of Attraction can possibly explain Imposter Syndrome.

Have you experienced Imposter Syndrome? What effect has it had on your life? Share with us what you’ve learnt from this episode in the comments below!
